Matty Cash slammed as Unai Emery delivers Aston Villa injury update
Bryan King is not a fan of Aston Villa full-back Matty Cash.
The ex-Villa scout wasn’t impressed by some of the challenges the Poland international put in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season.
He was once again a talking point in North London on Sunday (3 November) after being forced off with an injury in the 4-1 Premier League defeat to Tottenham.
According to Unai Emery (via The Athletic, 5 November), the 27-year-old will be unavailable against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Wednesday (6 November).
However, King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has backed somebody else in the squad to step up.
“I’ve never been a big fan of Cash,” King said.
“I remember him putting a couple of tackles in on Tottenham players last season, nasty tackles. He should have been sent off in that game, in my opinion.
“I’m sure that Villa have suitable cover for that position against Club Brugge. They’ve got a couple of very important games coming up.
“After that 4-1 defeat to Tottenham, which was very unusual for Villa, Emery will need his best players to turn up this week, that is for sure.”

Cash has already missed a big chunk of the season due to injury. Therefore, for his sake, he will be hoping that this latest setback isn’t anything serious.
However, from Villa’s perspective, they have been going well this season, even without Cash. As a result, there is no reason why Emery and his players shouldn’t still be confident of getting a result in Belgium.
They’ve been flying in the Champions League, and although problems have been mooted ahead of this fixture, Emery will be hoping to put the Spurs defeat behind him with a win on Wednesday.
