Unai Emery gutted as Matty Cash learns injury outcome after Aston Villa loss v Tottenham
Unai Emery will be without Matty Cash for a week after the Aston Villa defender picked up an injury against Tottenham on Sunday, according to Tomasz Wlodarczyk.
The Polish journalist reported via X on 5 November that the right-back has undergone tests after being forced off in North London and will miss Villa’s upcoming matches against Club Brugge and Liverpool.
Cash appeared to pick up an issue on his calf with the game against Tottenham poised at 1-1 and it is telling that Emery’s side went on to lose 4-1 after he left the pitch.
Unai Emery suffers Matty Cash blow at Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s collapse after reshuffling their defence following Cash’s injury highlighted the Poland international’s importance to the team.
The 27-year-old won each of his six duels (100 per cent) during the 60 minutes he was on the pitch, while also winning two of his five tackles, as per FotMob. This was particularly impressive considering he was up against Spurs captain Son Heung-min.
Cash was also good in possession, completing 22 of his passes, including four into the final third, with 88 per cent accuracy.

Cash will not be a huge miss against Club Brugge in Belgium on Wednesday (6 November) as he is yet to play in the UEFA Champions League this term.
However, Emery will be gutted to be without him for Aston Villa’s trip to Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday (9 November).
The club have won only one of their last five league games and hopes of causing an upset at Anfield will further be dampened by the right-back’s absence.
It is worth noting that he has already missed six games across all competitions through injury this season.
In other Aston Villa news, Emery’s stance over signing this South American forward has emerged in a new transfer update.
