Unai Emery desperate after Matty Cash developments for Aston Villa
Unai Emery will be hoping any injury to Matty Cash is not serious after he excelled for Aston Villa against Tottenham on Sunday.
With the game poised at 1-1 on 3 November in North London, Cash was forced off on the hour mark and Villa proceeded to collapse, shipping two Dominic Solanke goals before James Maddison completed the scoring as it finished 4-1.
Cash’s injury resulted in a reshuffle, with Diego Carlos coming on in his place and Ezri Konsa switching to right-back, and Emery will have every digit crossed that the Poland international is fit to face Club Brugge in the Champions League on 6 November.
Matty Cash shines amid disappointing day for Aston Villa
In his 60 minutes on the field at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Cash hardly put a foot wrong for the Villans, completing 88 per cent of 25 attempted passes and threading four into the final third [FotMob].
Making four entries into the final third, Cash got forward at will, with the 27-year-old winning all six of his attempted ground duels in the process – earning a free-kick with a success rate of 100 per cent.

Cash only misplaced three passes in his hour-long spell, two of which were unsuccessful long ball attempts, but on the ball, the Poland international wasn’t dispossessed once by Spurs’ high-line defence.
In defence, Cash may have only won two of his five attempted tackles, but that didn’t stop him from putting in seven defensive actions in total, including two ball recoveries [FotMob].
Cash put in a further clearance and interception apiece, and despite that injury seeing him miss the crucial last third of the game in North London, Emery will be desperate that his right-back can be fit and firing to face Club Brugge on Wednesday.
