Gary Lineker opens MOTD with swipe at what happened to Aston Villa
Gary Lineker has taken a swipe at Micah Richards for getting relegated with Aston Villa in his Match of the Day introduction on Saturday.
The ex-Villa skipper was on pundit duty on 2 November and in typical fashion, there was plenty of sarcasm as fun was poked by the presenter.
Speaking in the introduction of Match of the Day, Lineker welcomed Joe Hart and Richards to the studio but took a Villans-related swipe at the latter.
He said: “It’s been a big day at both ends of the table. The top three and the bottom six all in action. Two Premier League winners in the studio, Micah Richards and Joe Hart.
“Only one of them got relegated.”

Although Villa didn’t feature on Match of the Day, Lineker still took the opportunity to make a joke about the former skipper and the club which is typical of their relationship.
It is safe to say that the ex-Manchester City defender didn’t have the best time of things in his spell at Villa Park.
His captaincy reign saw the Villans relegated from the Premier League and he went on to make just three further appearances for the club.
There were particular low points in a 6-0 defeat against Liverpool while also getting into a pitchside altercation away to Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup.
There were plenty of issues in B6 during his spell and it is safe to say that he won’t look back at his time at Villa with much fondness in terms of what happened on the pitch.
Now as a pundit, Richards has covered the Villans in the Champions League and has reacted favourably to his former side.
