BBC pundit wowed by ‘Outstanding’ Amadou Onana in Tottenham v Aston Villa – ‘he has been exceptional’
Glenn Murray was blown away by what Amadou Onana did for Aston Villa against Tottenham on Sunday and labelled him “outstanding”.
Villa succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to Spurs in the Premier League in North London on Sunday (3 November) despite taking the lead in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Onana was one of the standout performers for Unai Emery’s side before the wheels fell off. Although his second-half performance left much to be desired, Murray was impressed with what he saw from the Belgian in the first 45.
“Amadou Onana has been outstanding”, Murray said on BBC Radio 5 Live (3 November, 2:53 pm).
“The way he reads the game and he understands he has to cover his full-backs.
“When he gets on the ball he always finds an Aston Villa shirt, he has been exceptional.”
Amadou Onana wows BBC pundit in Tottenham v Aston Villa
Aston Villa splurged £50million to acquire Onana‘s services from Everton in the summer (BBC) and he is doing well to live up to his price tag.
The Belgium international has been a linchpin for Emery’s side in midfield, chipping in with contributions at both ends of the pitch.
He has bagged three goals in 11 games across the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League this term, while also providing ample protection for Villa’s four-man defence.
At 23 years of age, Onana’s best years are ahead of him and it is safe to say that the Birmingham outfit poached him up from Everton at the right time.

Although the result in North London did not go Aston Villa’s way, they are more than capable of stringing together a string of good results in the coming weeks.
There is no doubt that Onana will be important to the team as they enter the festive period and Emery will hope that he avoids any serious injuries.
