Tyrone Mings gives Aston Villa teammate ‘kick up the backside’

Ty Bracey believes Tyrone Mings will provide competition for Pau Torres after making his return from injury against Crystal Palace.

Despite a miserable Wednesday night (30 October) being dumped out of the EFL Cup, there was a silver lining as the England international returned 445 days after suffering an injury.

The 31-year-old performed well and was ultimately let down by a Diego Carlos error which allowed Daichi Kamada to net the winner.

Villa podcaster Bracey, who features on the Villa Social, was delighted to see Mings and thinks he will provide competition for Torres moving forward.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It will definitely give Torres a kick up the backside, not that he needed it.

There’s some competition in that place which is always a good thing.

He won something like seven out of eight aerial duels which is the most since 2022 and that was also Mings. He has a massive presence in the air and it was just great to see him playing after over 400 days out.

I was just massively elated for him that he was back in the first team at Villa Park.

Tyrone Mings makes Aston Villa return v Crystal Palace

The defender had been an everpresent for the Villans since joining the club on loan in the Championship initially so it is a boost to have him back around the first-team squad.

It will be interesting to see how Unai Emery utilises the Englishman given that he and Torres both want to feature in that left centre back role.

Having positive competition in the squad can only be useful for Villa especially with Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup commitments coming up.
