Emi Martinez ‘Aura’ mooted at Aston Villa after what latest development
Dan Bardell wouldn’t swap Emi Martinez for any other goalkeeper at Aston Villa after winning the Yashin trophy at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Tuesday 28 October.
The Argentina international has been named the best goalkeeper in the world after picking up the award for the second time in a row.
The 32-year-old helped the Villans to Champions League qualification while also winning a second Copa America with Lionel Messi.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the Villa keeper deserves the accolade for his unique qualities in between the sticks.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think he won the award because he is the best goalkeeper in the world.
“Not even one part of me thinks there is a better keeper out there than Martinez when you take into account everything that he offers as a package, he has no weaknesses.
“What comes with him as well is that winning personality and that aura and I don’t think any other goalkeeper in world football possesses that.
“When you package that all up, there is no doubt that he is the best in the world. He is an absolute class act and I wouldn’t change him for anyone in the world.“

The award came as a surprise to some football fans who were left unsure whether or not the Villa man deserved the title of best goalkeeper.
This will not have come to any supporter in B6 who knows just how good Martinez is and how important he is to his club and his country’s success.
The ex-Arsenal man has helped the Villans to the top of the Champions League table with his showing against Bayern Munich being a particular high point.
There is so much to like about the world’s number one and Villa fans will be delighted to see him pick up yet another Yashin Trophy.
