Emi Buendia damages Aston Villa chances after what he did v Crystal Palace

Emi Buendia has damaged his chances of featuring more regularly for Aston Villa after a poor performance against Crystal Palace.

The Villans have been knocked out of the EFL Cup after falling to a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on Wednesday 30 October.

A Jhon Duran equaliser wasn’t enough as goals from Eberechi Eze and Daichi Kamada were enough for the Eagles to book their place in the quarter-final.

The performance from Unai Emery’s side wasn’t up to scratch with Buendia being one ace who struggled to make a positive impact.

The Argentine came in from the start at Villa Park but failed to make a positive impression ahead of the trip to face Tottenham on Sunday 3 November.

This saw the 27-year-old feature across 78 minutes but he could only register 39 touches but did register an 88 per cent pass accuracy in 25 attempts [FotMob].

A positive return but with just three being in the final third after being dispossessed five times, Emery is unlikely to be impressed.

Buendia was far from his usual best, completing just one dribble with a 33 per cent success rate while having just three touches in the Palace penalty area.

While failing to make an impact going forward, the ex-Norwich City star failed to have any influence defensively throughout the fourth-round tie.

This saw him fail to win a tackle while losing 11 duels in a terrible 15 per cent success rate as he also committed two fouls on the night.

There is very little positive to say about Buendia’s performance as he continues his road to recovery after a lengthy injury layoff.
