Morgan Rogers in Champions League hangover amid poor Aston Villa showing v Bournemouth
Morgan Rogers appeared to have a Champions League hangover in a difficult performance for Aston Villa against Bournemouth.
The Villans looked to have secured a win at Villa Park on Saturday 26 October thanks to Ross Barkley’s first goal of the season.
A last-gasp Evanilson goal brought the Cherries level with the last kick of the game to steal a point in the 1-1 draw.
Unai Emery won’t have been pleased with some performances with Rogers one star who had a difficult afternoon in B6 after featuring in the Champions League against Bologna.
Morgan Rogers struggles for Aston Villa v Bournemouth
The 22-year-old has been up there with one of Villa’s best and most important players this campaign but it wasn’t his best day against Bournemouth.
The versatile forward played closer to Ollie Watkins in an effort to occupy the opposition back line at Villa Park.
This didn’t suit his game as he was unable to drop deep to get on the ball and drive forward and create as much space for his teammates.
Uncharacteristically, Rogers failed to even attempt a dribble on the day and had just 19 touches across his 57 minutes on the pitch [FotMob].
It has to be said that Emery doesn’t typically take the former Manchester City youngster off which shows how tired he must be.
The England Under-21 international kept up an 80 per cent pass accuracy across his 12 attempts but made just two into the final third while being dispossessed four times.
He also lost seven duels while only winning one against the Cherries in a really poor 12 per cent win rate.

After playing 90 minutes and completing seven dribbles in the Champions League against Bologna, it is fair that tiredness would start to take its toll.
Coming off early probably was the right decision from Emery but it was disappointing for fans to not see Rogers’ best.
