Jacob Ramsey back to his best after what he did for Aston Villa in draw v Bournemouth

Jacob Ramsey looked to be back to his best for Aston Villa despite the disappointment of failing to see out the win in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday (26 October).

The Villans looked set to secure three points thanks to Ross Barkley’s first goal since rejoining the club in the summer.

It wasn’t to be, though, as an Evanilson header in the 96th minute drifted past Emi Martinez and into the bottom corner to hand the Cherries a late point at Villa Park.

Despite not taking the win, the performance of Ramsey was certainly a silver lining, especially after recent injury worries.

After suffering an injury while on international duty before the start of last season, the 23-year-old hasn’t quite been the same.

This was until the clash against Bournemouth where he turned up and showed exactly why he became a fan favourite so quickly in B6.

The England Under-21 international was more than willing to get on the ball and drive forward and had a part to play in Barkley’s goal by doing exactly that.

This was classed as his only successful dribble, maintaining a 100 per cent success rate [FotMob] but he wanted to get forward at every opportunity. He utilised this to create two chances on the day and cause issues for the Cherries defence.

Ramsey also kept up a 79 per cent pass completion across his 38 attempts and 50 touches which will please Unai Emery.

His work rate didn’t just happen going forward, he was also willing to help Lucas Digne and then Ian Maatsen going backwards.

This saw the academy graduate make one block and two interceptions while also contributing by winning three duels with a 75 per cent success rate.

It was an all-action performance from Ramsey that supporters had been missing but will want to see more of moving forward after this draw.
