Jaden Philogene does himself no favours for Aston Villa after what happened v Bologna

Jaden Philogene did himself no favours with Unai Emery after his poor substitute appearance for Aston Villa against Bologna on Tuesday (22 October).

The Villans secured yet another win in the Champions League at Villa Park thanks to goals from John McGinn and Jhon Duran.

The home side had the better of the chances throughout and never looked like losing the game, which allowed Emery to make plenty of changes including the re-introduction of Boubacar Kamara.

Philogene came on in place of Leon Bailey but failed to make a positive impact and arguably hurt his chances of featuring for Villa more regularly.

The winger was sent off against Fulham for two yellow cards and was left on the bench from the start in the Champions League against the Serie A outfit.

The 22-year-old was handed an opportunity as a substitute after he was brought on with the score at 2-0 and over 20 minutes to go.

This saw Philogene afforded just 13 touches throughout his cameo and he registered a rather underwhelming 80 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob].

It has to be said that he did create one chance but that was about as good as it got for the former Hull City star against Bologna.

This saw him have just one touch in the opposition’s penalty area and make one pass into the final third.

As per FotMob, the England Under-21s international is famed for his dribbling and close control but failed to complete a dribble and registered a zero per cent success rate (0/1).

His one and only shot of the night came from the edge of the box and spun away for a throw-in – a terrible effort, especially considering the level.

Defensively Philogene was also off the pace as he completed just one tackle out of three attempts with a 33 per cent success rate while also losing two duels.

The forward will miss the clash against Bournemouth on Saturday (26 October) but he hasn’t done himself any favours of starting any more games moving forward.
