Troy Deeney makes ‘arrogant’ Jhon Duran claim as explosive Aston Villa footage emerges

Troy Deeney claims Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is going to be “young, arrogant and ignorant” after another impressive performance against Bologna in the Champions League.

The Colombian has been in superb form for Aston Villa this season, averaging a goal every 58 minutes.

He was on the scoresheet again as Villa breezed past Serie A outfit Bologna in a 2-0 Champions League victory, sending them top of the league stage.

However, Duran was subbed off immediately after his goal, leaving the striker visibly emotional at his withdrawal and Deeney made a comment about his attitude.

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo after the match, former Birmingham City striker Deeney said: “He’s going to be young, arrogant, ignorant. He can get away with it. Every time he scores, he says ‘What more do you want me to do?’

“He’s got good pros around him to get hold of him and say ‘Listen, young man, you make a lot of mistakes you think you’re the man, you think you know it all’ but once you get to 22, 23, 24 people just go ‘we’ve figured him out now’. That’s what he needs to understand.”

Aston Villa need to keep Jhon Duran grounded

Duran is destined for the top, as seen by his performances so far this season. He just oozes quality and is still only 20 years old. There is plenty of time on his side for him to grow even further as a player and perhaps most importantly, mature as a person.

His antics after being subbed off can be interpreted in many ways. While some will see it as rightful frustration and a passion to help his team, others will see it as flat-out petulance and it can be a very fine line as a player.

Duran can not afford to let arrogance affect his career at such a young age, despite his ability clearly being there. For any player, let alone someone just starting their career, it is crucial to stay grounded and prioritise the team over yourself.

Some of the frustration is warranted, the Colombian is yet to start a game in the Premier League for Villa and his appearances and goals have come following his introduction as a substitute.

However, his time as Villa’s number one will come with hard work and most importantly, patience.
