Agbonlahor moans about Leon Bailey despite Aston Villa win v Bologna

Former Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor was not pleased with the performance of Leon Bailey in the club’s Champions League victory against Bologna on Tuesday (22 October).

The Jamaican international has had a frustrating season under Unai Emery so far and his performance in Villa’s Champions League encounter was more of the same.

Bailey, in the eight games he’s featured in, in all competitions, has registered just one goal contribution albeit it can be argued he deserved an assist against Bologna when assisting a golden chance for Morgan Rogers that was squandered.

Agbonlahor expressed his disappointment in the former Bayer Leverkusen man in a post on his official X account.

The post reads: “Leon Bailey I need more man I really need a lot more”

What is going on with Leon Bailey at Aston Villa?

Quite frankly, Bailey has been nowhere near his best this season. Whether it is due to a lack of fitness or desire, who knows? However, it certainly isn’t down to a lack of ability.

Throughout his career, Bailey has demonstrated just how good of a player he can be but perhaps lacked consistency from week to week.

The 27-year-old is yet to get on the scoresheet this season despite having made eight appearances. Many of which have been in the starting lineup.

It was a similar story for Bailey in Aston Villa’s Premier League encounter with Fulham at the weekend with the winger quite remarkably keeping his place despite that.

The incredible form of Morgan Rogers and the emergence of Jhon Duran has taken the spotlight away from Bailey’s poor levels of performance but Villa simply can not afford to keep giving him chance after chance with no reward at the end.

Perhaps a spell out of the team could be useful for the Jamaican for him to help rediscover the form he showcased far more often last campaign. He can still be a huge asset for Emery’s side this season.
