Jaden Philogene verdict shared in Aston Villa v Bolgona amid recent controversy
Dan Bardell believes Jaden Philogene will start for Aston Villa against Bologna on Tuesday 22 October despite being red-carded against Fulham.
The Villans welcome the Serie A outfit to Villa Park in the Champions League just three days after their Premier League clash at Craven Cottage where they secured a 3-1 win.
The win was dampened somewhat by the 22-year-old being sent off after picking up two yellow cards in five minutes.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks this boosts his chances of starting in the Champions League ahead of missing the upcoming home game against Bournemouth.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “The red card should enhance his chances of playing against Bologna.
“Emery spoke about the need for some rotation, I would expect after the Bayern game Philogene will start because he was so defensively diligent.
“I think because he can’t play at the weekend it will actually help him with the game in the Champions League.
“I do think it was a red card once the foul was given and the position of the pitch it’s in, it’s a second yellow card so I understand why he was sent off.“

It was a soft yellow card for a push on Reiss Nelson but when already booked, you just can not get away with that so close to the penalty area.
This will have frustrated Emery but with a busy schedule, he can’t hold a grudge and needs to utilise his squad with Philogene being a key member in recent weeks.

His defensive work against Bayern was paramount and he will likely be handed a similar task against Bologna as the Villans look to go three from three in the Champions League.
In other Aston Villa news, one star is undeserving of a start against Bologna after what he did in the Fulham game.
