Aston Villa questioned over transfer decision as Jhon Duran claim made
Don Goodman cannot understand why Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Brentford forward Bryan Mbuemo.
Villa are said to be in the race to sign Mbuemo ahead of his contract expiring at the end of next season [TheBootRoom, 20 October].
The Brentford ace is not the only forward to have been linked with a move to Villa Park in recent weeks, but Goodman does not believe any such move makes sense as Jhon Duran is already waiting in reserve behind Ollie Watkins.
“There’s no room at the inn with Jhon Duran already having to be patient,” he told Aston Villa News.
“Who can you get who will be prepared to come to Aston Villa and not play. And potentially be third choice?
“That person will not be at the level to improve Villa. When bringing people in it’s to improve your squad and preferably your XI. It’s not beneficial unless it’s a young player willing to wait for their chance.”
Aston Villa may further strengthen in January transfer window
From the outside looking in, signing another attacker to rival Ollie Watkins and Duran does indeed seem strange.
Mbuemo can play out on the right, but the majority of his appearances this season have come purely as a centre-forward [WhoScored].
That said, Villa cannot be blamed for wanting to strike while the iron is hot. Villa are flying high in the Premier League once again and are also in the Champions League.

Come January, the Villans will have a higher-calibre pool of talent to choose from than most, which they will look to take advantage of.
The Mbuemo links may well come to nothing, but signing another centre-forward – if the price is right – should not be entirely ruled out.
In other Aston Villa news, Goodman has explained why a player has avoided an “absolutely stupid” situation.
