Rory Wilson decides on £10,000-a-week+ five-year Aston Villa contracts as mystery rumbles on

Aston Villa have now offered Rory Wilson over £10,000-a-week as talks continue after multiple five-year contracts have been rejected, according to The Athletic.

The online outlet reported on 18 October that the 18-year-old has been nursing an ankle injury which saw him mysteriously miss out on the EFL Cup clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

Despite this, talks have continued between the Villans and the striker’s representatives as he enters the final year of his contract after turning down a series of five-year offers.

Salary offers have risen “comfortably above” the £10k-a-week mark but Villa have said salary expectations that double the best in the academy set-up will not be met.

Aston Villa continue contract talks with Rory Wilson

The Scotland Under-21 international has been one of the best and most consistent players in the youth sides at Villa Park over recent years.

Since signing from Rangers, the youngster has proved his worth with his goalscoring abilities, scoring three in three Premier League 2 showings this season [SofaScore] while also getting on the scoresheet in the UEFA Youth League.

This has seen the Villans look to do their utmost to tie him down to a fresh contract with talks taking longer than their potentially expected.

It did seem as if these talks had led to Unai Emery leaving him out of the squad against Wycombe as plenty of academy products made appearances.

Kadan Young made his first start for the club after signing a new deal while Sil Swinkels started at the back.

It has now been revealed an ankle concern is to blame for his absence as negotiations continue to try and tie the striker down to a long term deal.
