Aston Villa favourites to beat Man City in race to sign Castello Lukeba after £60m transfer news
Bryan King claims Aston Villa’s ability to offer Castello Lukeba regular football could help them sign the RB Leipzig defender ahead of Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The ex-Villa scout believes the 21-year-old would be more of a squad player if he were to join Madrid or City.
As reported via CaughtOffside (15 October), Unai Emery is keen on Villa signing Lukeba in January. However, the Frenchman is valued at £60million, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also interested.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – thinks this is a lot of money to pay for a player in the Bundesliga.
“Villa do have something in their favour,” King said.
“If they were to pay that type of money for this player, he has more chance of playing regularly for Villa than the other clubs mentioned. Therefore, that could be a factor.
“However, again, we’re in speculation mode. It seems an awful lot of money to pay for a defender playing in the Bundesliga, and one who isn’t a star name as we speak.
“As I said, the only advantage for Villa is that if they were to offer the money they can offer Lukeba a regular game. He would be more of a squad player at the other clubs than he would be with Villa.”
Aston Villa to sign Castello Lukeba ahead of Real Madrid and Manchester City?
Real Madrid and Manchester City are two of the most successful clubs in Europe right now. Therefore, if they are interested in the same player as Villa, that is bound to get supporters excited.
And if Villa could sign Lukeba ahead of those two European heavyweights, it would be a real statement of intent. However, £60million is a lot of money to pay for a player in January, despite Villa’s recent financial boost.
As a result, Emery needs to be certain that this is the right man to go for.

Villa already have some talented defenders, and adding another wouldn’t hurt. However, they cannot afford to spend that kind of money on a player who doesn’t turn out to be a success.
