Lucas Digne backed for France boost thanks to Aston Villa developments
Ty Bracey believes Lucas Digne will receive more call-ups for France due to his Aston Villa form this season.
The left-back has been superb for the Villans and has become one of the first names on the teamsheet under Unai Emery.
This has seen him maintain his starting role this campaign despite Ian Maatsen coming in from Chelsea for £37.5million [Sky Sports] to provide competition for the 31-year-old.
The Frenchman has kept his place and has earned multiple national call-ups and Villa podcaster Bracey, who features on the Villa Social, has backed him for more in the future.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Since his time at Villa and Emery coming in, he’s had other left backs pushing him for the position.
“There has been Alex Moreno and then Villa have signed Ian Maatsen but he seems to take that in his stride and keeps on performing.
“He just keeps putting himself in the mix for starting roles and got a well-deserved call-up to the France squad where he got an assist. I’m not really surprised anymore, he’s consistent in his form and has been great for us.
“I’m really happy with how he’s been working and how pressure has been helping him with a new backup coming in. If he keeps performing for Villa on the pitch, I’m sure international call-ups will keep coming.“
Lucas Digne Aston Villa form to earn additional France call-ups
The former Everton man has come under fire at points in his Villa career with Moreno being the preferred option after signing from Real Betis in January 2023.
With that being said, Digne has worked to return to that starting left-back role and has made it his own, providing two Premier League assists so far this campaign.

There is likely to be a plan for Maatsen to come in as the starter in the future but for the here and now, the France international is showing his class for club and country.
