Aston Villa in talks over multi-million-pound Leander Dendoncker sale
Aston Villa and Anderlecht are discussing making the transfer of Leander Dendoncker permanent for around £5million, according to Voetbalkrant [16 October].
At the moment, the midfielder is on loan at the Belgian outfit, however, they intend to strike a deal with the Villans to secure the 29-year-old’s services on a four-year contract.
While Anderlecht had already negotiated an option to buy Dendoncker for around £7m in the summer, they hope to pay less.
Leander Dendoncker failed to make a mark at Aston Villa
Dendoncker signed for Villa in the summer of 2022 after an impressive stint at Wolves.
Unfortunately, the Belgium international failed to replicate those performances at Villa Park and quickly found himself out of Unai Emery’s plans, and being consistently injured didn’t help his cause either.
After falling out of favour under the Spanish manager, the 29-year-old moved to Napoli on loan in January 2024, but his fortunes remained unchanged.

Now back at his boyhood club, Dendoncker has found regular game-time and has become an essential player for David Hubert at the Lotto Park, captaining the side and making five appearances in all competitions.
As for the Villans, Emery has some quality players in the engine room, like Youri Tielemens, Amadou Onana, John McGinn and Ross Barkley, and it’s unlikely the Belgian will get many opportunities if he were to return to the club next summer.
Therefore, losing Dendoncker is not something fans will be too worried about, and the midfielder’s sale will add much-needed funds to the club’s banks.
