Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers does little to impress Unai Emery in England U21 showing

Aston Villa ace failed to impress Unai Emery with his performance for England U21 despite a 7-0 win against Azerbaijan U21 on Tuesday 15 October.

It did come as a surprise to some for the 22-year-old to have missed out on the senior Three Lions side after an excellent run of form for the Villans.

With that being said, he hasn’t done himself many favours with a poor showing for the under-21s side at Ashton Gate before being substituted.

This won’t leave Emery impressed ahead of a return to club action with a clash against Fulham on the horizon on Saturday 19 October.

There is no doubt that the former Manchester City starlet has been a key player in B6 so far this campaign, making the role behind Ollie Watkins his own.

As a result, many felt that he was deserving of an England call up from Lee Cardsley but he had to settle for a set of under 21 appearances instead.

After failing to score or assist off the bench against Ukraine U21s, there was hope that starting the second game of the break.

Rogers was handed 61 minutes in Bristol which saw him afforded 41 touches which he utilised to complete 19 passes with a 79 per cent accuracy [SofaScore] which is likely to frustrate Emery.

The forward did manager to get two shots on target off with a 66 per cent accuracy ratio but this also saw him miss one big chance which will frustrate him.

The Villa ace is famed for his ability to drive with the ball but he could only complete one dribble with a 33 per cent dribble success on the night.

It also wasn’t his best day defensively as he failed to win a tackle while giving away two fouls and being dribbled past once.

Rogers also attempted to win eight duels but only came out on the right side of them on two occasions with a poor success rate of 20 per cent.

Giving possession away 14 times in little over an hour just isn’t good enough and wouldn’t be accepted by his manager in B6.

There has been a lot to like about the 22-year-old this season but if he wants that senior England call-up, he must do better for the under-21s.
