Aston Villa in ‘unprecedented’ Jhon Duran contract development amid admission
Dan Bardell is eating humble pie after Jhon Duran signed a new contract at Aston Villa despite wanting rid of him during the summer.
The Colombia international struck a controversial figure during the transfer window due to his social media activity.
Links to West Ham saw him show an Irons gesture on a live stream, resulting in Villa fans demanding that the 20-year-old be sold for his disrespect.
This never happened and the striker has proved to be one of the Villans’ best players this season, leaving Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell eating his words after Duran agreed to a new deal.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It’s great news for Villa.
“There’s no doubt he’s Villa’s story of the season so far and maybe even across the whole Premier League.
“I’d had enough of him over the summer, but I’m eating humble pie. What he has done this season so far is unprecedented.“
Jhon Duran signs new contract at Aston Villa
The 20-year-old has been one of the Villans’ most important players so far this campaign despite making just one start in all competitions.
His six goals have helped Unai Emery’s side on the way to comeback wins against Everton and Wolves as well as a famous victory against Bayern Munich.
This has come after being heavily linked with a move away from Villa Park during the summer transfer window with the London Stadium seemingly close to going through.
The Colombian stayed and took the number nine shirt and has become as well-loved by supporters as anyone else in the squad right now.
His new contract could see him stay in B6 for six more years or boost the fee that Villa could receive for the former Chicago Fire starlet.
