Robert de Pauw in ‘uneasy’ Aston Villa Women start amid Carla Ward admission

Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa Women will stick by Robert de Pauw after a difficult spell after replacing Carla Ward as manager.

The Dutchman came in as head coach over the summer as the former Birmingham City manager ended her three-year association with the club.

Since coming in from Bayer Leverkusen, the 43-year-old has added eight fresh faces to his squad with Gabi Nunes being the highest profile in a £250k deal [Sky Sports].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks these transfer dealings will point towards Villa keeping faith in de Pauw despite struggling to replace Ward.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Feels a bit of an uneasy time right now.

“The stability of Carla Ward is gone as we enter a new era that could take some time to get going. I’m sure it will come.

Villa have invested and committed a lot into the women’s setup and they will back themselves with the Robert de Pauw appointment.

Robert de Pauw struggles in WSL as Aston Villa Women’s manager

The Villans have failed to win in the league so far this campaign, picking up just one point in their opening four games.

It has to be said that their opposition has been tough for the most part with their opening two games being against Chelsea and Manchester City.

Rachel Daly inspired her side to a point at Villa Park against Tottenham but this has been as good as it has got this season.

The worst of de Pauw’s side came against Brighton on Saturday 5 October, losing 4-2 against Brighton with Paula Thomas being sent off.

The Dutchman will be hopeful of improved performances from his side in the coming weeks after a shaky start to life in the WSL.

In other Aston Villa news, Missy Bo Kearns has been backed to be a ‘breakout star’ after her summer transfer.
