Aston Villa better with ‘really great’ Matty Cash despite draw v Manchester United
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa are better when Matty Cash plays despite drawing against Manchester United on Sunday 6 October.
The Villans fell to a bore draw at Villa Park against Erik ten Hag’s struggling away side with neither side able to take their chances.
The one positive for Unai Emery to take is that the Poland international right back returned from injury which has ruled him out for seven games in all competitions.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks Villa are better with the 27-year-old given how improved he is under the Spaniard.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It was a good display from Cash, who grew into the game and went the full 90 after a sustained period out.
“He offered some key contributions at both ends of the pitch, and for me, Villa are a better team with him in it.
“His interception at the end was a really great bit of defending.
“I think his game intelligence has improved tenfold under Emery, he tucks in when it’s needed and supports attacks when the setup allows.“
Matty Cash shines for Aston Villa v Manchester United
The former Nottingham Forest man has often been in and out of the Villa starting XI since Emery came in but now appears to have locked that right back spot down.
He showed why against the Red Devils with a positive showing defensively which saw him make a potentially point-saving interception in the second half.
His performance wasn’t perfect and there are still elements of his game going forward which could be improved, but for a first game back he looked like he hadn’t been away.

With Ezri Konsa withdrawing from the England squad, he could miss some games for the Villans which will only boost Cash’s first-team chances.
