Pau Torres proves why he is ‘One of the best’ in Aston Villa win v Bayern Munich
Dan Bardell believes Pau Torres showed his class for Aston Villa in the 1-0 win against Bayern Munich on Wednesday 2 October.
The Villans secured a famous win against the Bundesliga giants at Villa Park with Jhon Duran lobbing Manuel Neuer for the all-important goal.
This strike meant so much after an excellent defensive showing with Emi Martinez helping to inspire his side to a clean sheet.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell was wowed by Torres on the night as he grabbed an assist and was imperious at the back.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “With Pau Torres, I’ve got no fear of losing him to anyone.
“Villa is such a good environment to play football in that clubs can’t just come and take players.
“Torres is like a conductor from centre back which is absolutely ridiculous, I’ve never seen a centre back capable of doing that in European football.
“His through ball for the goal is so clever, so precise, Duran still has a lot to do but time and time again attacking moves start with Torres.
“It’s a mystery to me why he wasn’t in the Spain squad for the EUROs.
“Torres is a superb centre half and every time he faces elite opposition, he proves to be one of the best players on the pitch and it was the same against Bayern.“
Pau Torres shines for Aston Villa v Bayern Munich
The 27-year-old has been an everpresent at the heart of the Villa defence since signing from Villarreal.
There is so much positive to say about the Spaniard who is superb on the ball and combines well with Ezri Konsa at the back.
Against Bayern, Torres featured alongside Diego Carlos and the pair were excellent to keep the likes of Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala quiet throughout.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if he was linked away from Villa Park in upcoming transfer windows but given the standard that Emery’s side are playing at, it may take a monumental bid to tempt Villa’s resolve.
