Emi Martinez compared to Manuel Neuer after what he did for Aston Villa v Bayern Munich

Dan Bardell has compared Emi Martinez to Manuel Neuer after Aston Villa won 1-0 against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The Villans secured a famous win at Villa Park on Wednesday 2 October with the Argentina international playing a key role to secure three points.

Jhon Duran caught the opposition number one and World Cup winner out for the only goal of the game as the striker lobbed him from range.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes Neuer will think the Villa ace is the best in the world after what he saw in the clash.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think was quite interesting with Martinez, with him and Neuer on the pitch, he almost carries the same aura that he used to carry.

Neuer must look at Martinez now and think he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. He is absolutely incredible with the saves he made at crucial times.

How many big games has he played in now and made an impact? That’s what Emi Martinez does.

It was lovely to see him kissing the badge at the Holte End, he loves the club and is so appreciative of the chance the club has given him.

It’s brilliant for him that he’s playing on the biggest stage because that’s what he wants to do and it’s great that he wants to do it with Villa because I’m sure there’s plenty of clubs that would want him.

Emi Martinez outshines Manuel Neuer v Bayern Munich

The 32-year-old has had some questionable moments in recent years but there is no doubt that he has been one of the best players Villa Park has seen in many years.

His performance against the Bundesliga giants was superb with three saves being enough to keep the likes of Michael Olise, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel out [FotMob].

This provided a base for Unai Emery’s side to go on and secure a hard-fought win with Duran scoring the all-important goal off the bench.
