Aston Villa star Emiliano Martínez told to ‘grow up’ after controversy
Bryan King has told Aston Villa star Emiliano Martínez to “grow up” after the goalkeeper was handed a two-match ban by FIFA.
The ex-Villa scout has described the goalkeeper’s recent antics as “totally unnecessary.”
As reported by BBC Sport (28 September), Martínez will miss Argentina’s next two matches after being handed a ban by FIFA for “offensive behaviour”.
It comes after he held a replica Copa America trophy against his crotch following the 3-0 win over Chile (6 September), before hitting a camera with his gloves after the 2-1 defeat to Colombia (10 September).
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – can’t understand why the 32-year-old has done these things.
“This isn’t good for the club,” King said.
“To pick up these bans when you’re away on international duty. We all know he is representing his country. However, he is also representing his football club.
“Therefore, these antics that he has got himself into, it is totally unnecessary. It doesn’t only impact him, but it impacts Villa. Grow up, it is not necessary to do the things that he is doing. What would his kids say?”
Aston Villa star Emiliano Martínez must do better after recent controversy
Martínez has been having problems both on and off the pitch recently.
The shot-stopper was partly to blame as Unai Emery’s side drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday (29 September).
Therefore, Emery will be hoping that the goalkeeper turns things around soon.

Villa have a big season ahead of them, with huge matches in both the UEFA Champions League and Premier League to come.
As a result, the club’s big-name stars will need to be at 100 per cent, which includes Martínez.
