Aston Villa could make Joe Gomez January move amid potential injury and PSR concerns
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa could move for Joe Gomez in January if injuries hit Unai Emery’s side despite issues with PSR.
The Villans have struggled at the back in recent weeks with Diego Carlos in particular coming under fire for his recent showing against Ipswich Town.
This could prompt a move for the Liverpool ace given he is considering his future at Anfield after the defender was linked to Villa Park during the summer [Birmingham Live].
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist isn’t sure about the likelihood of a deal but thinks the 27-year-old would fit in, in B6.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I don’t see any major defensive business being done in January unless injuries hit.
“PSR has made January an even more difficult market and trying to reshape an area of your team mid-season is tough.
“Joe Gomez strikes me as the right fit tactically, but not in terms of profile with his age and probable fee.“
Aston Villa could sign Joe Gomez in January
The Villans are somewhat light in the centre back position, especially with Tyrone Mings’ recovery from injury taking longer than potentially expected.
As a result, a move for Gomez could prove to be a smart one, especially if he is available in a cut-price deal at Anfield.
The former England international is versatile enough to feature as a central defender or even at full back which would certainly suit Emery’s set-up.
It remains unclear whether PSR will be a concern for Monchi and Co. moving forward into the January window which will ultimately decide whether this deal will be done.

If there are funds available for a transfer then Villa could go much further wrong than signing Gomez.
