Aston Villa slated for decision taken ahead of Bayern Munich Champions League tie

Aston Villa have “exploited” supporters with their “disappointing” decision to massively hike ticket prices ahead of the Bayern Munich tie, according to Don Goodman.

The Villans announced last month that the cheapest ticket for the match, available to season ticket holders at a discounted price, will start at £70 for adults.

The more expensive tickets will then range from £85 to £97, yet Wednesday’s (2 October) match took little time to sell out.

Goodman points out that Villa are not alone in putting finances first, but the decision does not sit right with him.

“I think they’ve misread the room, but they’ll justify it by saying it’s a sell out,” he told Villa News. “If you’re a Villa fan and haven’t seen your side in Europe’s top competition, you’re going to beg, steal and borrow to get a ticket.

But it was upsetting and disappointing to hear. It’s like releasing a new kit every year – clubs know supporters will want to have it. It’s exploitation. It’s not just Villa – every club does it. Do I like it? No. Will it change? Probably not.”

Aston Villa ticket prices vs Bayern Munich leaves sour taste in mouth

Villa supporters were furious at this news when it was first announced, but nobody at all is surprised the game is sold out.

Indeed, the club could have charged £200 a ticket and there still would not have been any seats available for the Bayern clash.

This is a historic game for the Villans and one of those ‘I was there moments’. It’s just a shame the club felt the need to hike the prices by so much.

Once that first ball is kicked, though, all that will be forgotten about. All that matters is that those lucky enough to have got their hands on a ticket make as much noise as possible.

If every single Villa players turns up on the day, there is no reason why a major upset cannot be on the cards.

For that to happen, Villa Park needs to experience an atmosphere like it has never experienced before on what could be a truly special night.
