Aston Villa told why Bayern Munich win is possible amid ‘massive’ claim
Aston Villa are more than capable of beating Bayern Munich having held their own against the Premier League big boys, according to Don Goodman.
The Villans host German giants Bayern at Villa Park in the second round of Champions League fixtures on Wednesday (2 October).
Unai Emery’s men are considered underdogs by many, yet Goodman does not really see why that is the case.
“The Bayern game is massive,” he told Villa News. “But you have to ask yourself, if you’re Aston Villa, are Bayern Munich better than Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool?
“If I’m honest with you, I don’t think they are. Therefore, Aston Villa have shown under Unai Emery that they can compete with those teams.
“There is no reason whatsoever why they can’t beat Bayern Munich on their own patch if they bring their A-game – I can absolutely see them doing so. If they don’t bring their A-game, they’ll be in for a tough night.”
Aston Villa face massive Bayern Munich showdown
As Goodman rightly points out, Villa have more than picked up their fair share of big results against the Premier League’s so-called top six under Emery.
Indeed, it was by beating such teams that they finished fourth last season with 68 points – more than the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United.
There is absolutely no reason for Villa to be written off on the basis of Bayern being a European – and world – superpower.

Just ask Arsenal, to name one side, how tough it can be to come to Villa Park. That was a memorable occasion last season but nothing quite compares to this clash with Bayern.
A win really would make for one of the best results in the Villans’ history, but even the occasion alone is going to be special.
In other Aston Villa news, Goodman insists Emery “doesn’t care a jot” with regards to a decision he has taken this season.
