Unai Emery fuming after what he saw Emi Martinez do in Aston Villa v Ipswich Town
Unai Emery certainly will have been fuming at what Emi Martinez did in the first half of Aston Villa v Ipswich Town.
The Argentina number one conceded the opener from Liam Delap and a stopper of his calibre certainly would’ve been disappointed to let that one.
With that, he put undue pressure on the visitors on 29 September and while they did equalise and eventually take the lead, it was an unnecessary scare.
Emi Martinez must do better in goal for Aston Villa
Usually among the best players in the Villa side, the 32-year-old had a half to forget at Portman Road.
According to Sofascore, he conceded 0.17 goals fewer than the average keeper would’ve and that number went up because of a decent save he made towards the dying stages of the half.
He has also not been in his usual commanding self inside the penalty area as he’s made no punches or high claims.
Towards the end of the half, he fumbled an attempt to claim the ball in the air, albeit he does not entirely merit the blame for that.
Villa do play a notorious high line at times because they can rely on Martinez’s ability to sweep things up, but he’s not run out of his penalty area even once in the half.
One thing the Argentine has been good at is keeping things ticking at the back and playing the long balls when needed.
He’s had a 100 per cent pass accuracy with his shorter passes and has completed six out of seven of his long passes – which is an impressive feat – making his overall pass accuracy 94 per cent.

Emery will certainly be worried about the goalkeeping aspect of things and hopefully can give him the confidence he needs for the second half.
