Ezri Konsa shares honest Aston Villa admission despite Unai Emery plan v Wolves

Ezri Konsa has revealed he doesn’t want to play at right-back despite a useful Aston Villa tactical change from Unai Emery against Wolves.

The England international started on the flank against the Villans’ Midlands rivals last Saturday (21 September) in a 3-1 win.

This was not an unusual change from the Spanish manager given that the 26-year-old featured from the right frequently last campaign.

In an interview with Sky Sports News on 28 September, the former Brentford man revealed he wants to feature more in the middle of defence this season.

He said: “I hope not. Look, centre back is my best position so for me, in the near future I hope to be playing there.”

Ezri Konsa shares Aston Villa admission amid Unai Emery change

Konsa has been an ever-present for the Villans under Emery but has almost become a victim of his qualities and versatility.

The Englishman is arguably the best central defender at the club but has often been forced to the right in place of an inconsistent Matty Cash or to allow Diego Carlos to start.

With that being said, the former Brentford man always seems to perform at a top level in the position.

This was the case against Wolves where the defender was on the scoresheet to help complete a comeback victory at Villa Park.

As well as making an impact going forward, Konsa stuck to his manager’s values with 56 passes completed with a 97 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob].

Considering he had 69 touches, to maintain this level of passing is quite superb and just typical of the ex-Charlton star.

His defensive work was also top class as he won five duels, won 100 per cent of his tackles while also contributing with one clearance, one interception and five recoveries.

There are plenty of positive assets to Konsa’s game and as long as he keeps performing wherever he plays, he will be an everpresent under Emery at Villa Park, despite his admission meaning nothing.
