Aston Villa ‘deal could happen in January’ to sign Liverpool ace Joe Gomez after Anfield news

Ty Bracey believes Aston Villa could strike a deal with Liverpool for Joe Gomez in January.

The 27-year-old is said to be considering his future at Anfield which could see the Villans step up their interest after the defender was linked during the summer [Birmingham Live].

A defender was on the wishlist at Villa Park during the most recent window, one being Lutsharel Geertruida being heavily linked towards the end of the window [The Telegraph].

Villa podcaster Bracey, who features on the Villa Social, could see Villa making a move for the Englishman depending on their squad depth by January.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Joe Gomez wasn’t heavily involved in Liverpool’s preseason because he was looking for a club.

If we were going to jump, I assume we would have in the window just gone but I do think we are short in defence still. We could still do with one more at centre back so we will have to wait and see.

We don’t know if teams will come in for our players in January.

I’m excited to see what happens and I think the fixtures in a couple of months will show we’re short in that position so a deal could happen in January.

The Villans are light in the centre back department which was pretty much summed up by Lamare Bogarde and Sil Swinkels starting against Wycombe Wanderers.

Should one of Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres or Diego Carlos get injured, Emery’s plans for the season may be scuppered somewhat.

The introduction of a versatile defender option like Gomez could prove to be a smart piece of business if a fair fee can be negotiated.

It could prove to be an issue that the former England international wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting role at Villa Park if he was to sign.
