Lamare Bogarde let teammate down in Aston Villa win v Wycombe after what Lee Hendrie said
Lamare Bogarde struggled defensively against Wycombe Wanders and let down Sil Swinkels despite Aston Villa securing a 2-1 win on Tuesday 25 September.
The Villans are through to the fourth round of the EFL Cup thanks to goals from Emi Buendia and Jhon Duran.
It wasn’t plain sailing for Unai Emery’s side as the Chairboys had better chances throughout and eventually grabbed a consolation goal through Richard Kone.
The centre half pairing for the away side had a youthful look which was eventually exposed by the Wycombe forward line.
Lamare Bogarde struggles for Aston Villa v Wycombe
Bogarde started at the heart of the defence and struggled alongside Swinkels who was making his first senior appearance for the club since January 2021.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on 24 September, Lee Hendrie felt that the Dutchman could have done better given the experiences he has had in the Premier League so far this season.
He said: “Bogarde’s been playing in the first team. He is a centre half and in pre season was playing centre half, he has played there with Pau Torres and all of a sudden he’s the experienced one out of the two.
“He should be now having that bit more confidence and dictating to Swinkels and talking to him because he’s stepped up to the plate.”
It has to be said that the 20-year-old was excellent and composed with the ball at his feet on the night which saw him complete 86 passes with a 95 per cent accuracy [FotMob].
Bogarde managed 101 touches of the ball but could only complete four passes into the final third.
The versatile defender was dispossessed once and was unable to complete a single tackle with a zero per cent success rate against the League One side.
He did manage to have some positive impact at the back with one block, three clearances and one interception but did lose five duels in disappointing circumstances.
Given that he was technically the more experienced first team player, Bogarde should have been an example to Swinkels next to him but struggled to find his feet.
It was a disappointing night for the 20-year-old who would have been able to impress Emery after being dropped against Wolves.
