Aston Villa Women expectations shared amid Gabi Nunes record signing

Dan Bardell is unsure how successful Aston Villa Women will be this season after confirming the club record signing of Gabi Nunes.

The Villans announced a deal for the Brazil international on 13 September in a statement signing ahead of Robert de Pauw’s first campaign in charge.

The 27-year-old didn’t feature on the opening day as Villa fell to a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on 20 September.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks it was time for a refresh in B6 but isn’t too confident for the season ahead.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Obviously, with the manager leaving and some players leaving as well, it was time to have a refresh.

They’ve obviously backed the new manager by bringing in a top signing for a club record fee. I think it’ll make for an interesting season.

I haven’t got massive expectations.

The club have refreshed the Women’s side, got a new manager in and a lot of new players so we will see how they build as the season goes on.

Aston Villa Women confirm Gabi Nunes record signing

The forward signed from Liga F side Levante in what the Birmingham Mail said is a club-record £250,000 deal.

This has only added more firepower to the Villans’ side which already had plenty of quality in forward areas before the transfer window opened.

Rachel Daly and Adriana Leon were already at the club and have since been added to by the likes of Krissy Grant and Missy Bo Kearns.

There is a lot to like about the signing of Nunes and de Pauw will be hopeful that his new signing can have the desired impact in the coming weeks.
