Ollie Watkins injury update shared after returning to best in Aston Villa win v Young Boys

Ollie Watkins was on top form for Aston Villa against Young Boys before being spotted on the bench with ice on his Achilles.

The England international was unfortunate not to be on the scoresheet after his goal was ruled out due to a dubious handball decision.

This didn’t stop the Villans from securing three points in the Champions League as Youri Tielemans, Jacob Ramsey and Amadou Onana all got on the scoresheet in a 3-0 win.

Watkins was taken off with half an hour to go due to injury but Unai Emery has assured that the 28-year-old is “ok” [Birmingham Live, 17 September].

Ollie Watkins back to his best for Aston Villa v Young Boys

The former Weston Super Mare loanee started in the Champions League for the first time on Tuesday (17 September) in a massive moment for fans and players alike.

Watkins made this count with a hugely positive performance despite not getting the goal that he would have dreamed of.

This didn’t stop him from trying as he took four shots and accumulated 0.72 expected goals [FotMob] but just couldn’t get an effort beyond David von Ballmoos.

The striker was able to create for his teammates as he made three chances as he completed eight passes, with an 80 per cent success rate throughout his 60 minute showing.

He did pick up an assist in the most bizarre circumstances, falling onto the ball before Ramsey found the bottom corner from inside the six-yard box.

This counted as one of his five touches inside the opposition’s penalty area, with his other 16 other touches coming elsewhere on the pitch in Bern.

The Villa number 11 was on top form alongside the excellent Morgan Rogers and supporters will be glad to hear that he isn’t injured after being forced off early on.
