Rory Wilson shows his class to Unai Emery despite Aston Villa UEFA Youth League loss
Rory Wilson showed his class to Unai Emery with a goal as Aston Villa fell to a UEFA Youth League defeat against Young Boys.
The Young Lions began their inaugural campaign in Europe’s elite academy competition in frustrating circumstances on Tuesday (17 September).
Josep Gombau’s side took the lead through 18-year-old Wilson before being pegged back by Young Boys via a Felix Tsimba goal before half time.
Elio Rufener put Young Boys in front to secure all three points for the home side in Bern as the Villans fell to an opening matchday loss.
With Wilson on the scoresheet once again, though, Emery will surely be sitting up and taking notice of the young forward.

The Villa first team could eventually have a striker problem if Ollie Watkins or Jhon Duran were to suffer an injury at some point during the season.
This could force Emery into showing faith in an academy prospect and there aren’t much better forward options than Wilson right now.
The Scot was on the goalscoring trail once again, this time on the European stage, which can only be a further boost to his confidence.
The opening goal was created by Ben Broggio, whose dribble ended with a strike on goal that was saved into Wilson’s path to tap in from six yards.
To see a youngster have these instinctive poacher qualities should pique the interest of the Villa hierarchy.
Although the result didn’t go as Gombau would have wanted, there were plenty of positives to take from their opening Youth League clash.
There is a chance that Wilson’s performance could see him involved in Emery’s squad in the coming weeks or months.
