Aston Villa backed to offer new contract to Jhon Duran after ‘incredible’ moment v Everton
Bryan King has backed Aston Villa to offer Jhon Duran a brand new contract at Villa Park.
The ex-Villa scout was blown away by the 20-year-old’s “incredible” strike against Everton on Saturday (14 September).
Duran came off the bench and netted the winner from distance as Unai Emery’s side fought back from two goals down to claim a 3-2 victory over the Toffees at Villa Park.
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – has insisted it is now up to the Villans to make Duran a player for the future.
“Duran came on and scored a wonder goal,” King said.
“It was an incredible strike. For Emery to have that option, whether it is Ollie Watkins starting or Duran starting, is great.
“To be able to change it and bring on quality like Duran who can produce goals like that, I mean what a goal to win a game. I think his value will be going up if he continues to score goals like that
“However, he’s under contract at Aston Villa. Therefore, it is up to Villa to make him a player for the future by either extending his contract or offering him a new contract.
“However, at this moment in time, he is a Villa player, in a squad of players, who are doing quite well. As a result, whether he starts or comes on, then he has got to produce and he produced against Everton.”
Jhon Duran to sign new Aston Villa contract after wonder goal v Everton?
Duran is already under contract with Villa until 2028. However, he was close to leaving the club in the summer.
Emery will no doubt now feel relieved that the club ended up keeping hold of the Colombian. Duran has netted three decisive goals for Villa in the Premier League this season, all off the bench.
Therefore, the club’s long-term stance on the player will surely have changed.

Although he still has four years left on his current deal, Duran will likely be attracting more and more interest from potential suitors across Europe.
As a result, Villa might be wise to tie him down to more favourable terms.
