Unai Emery has to rethink Pau Torres role after what happened in Aston Villa win v Everton

Unai Emery may now rethink his role for Pau Torres after he was bullied by Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Aston Villa secured a 3-2 win against Everton.

The Villans completed a comeback win against Sean Dyche’s side on Saturday 14 September, despite going 2-0 down within 27 minutes.

Two goals from Ollie Watkins and one from Jhon Duran were enough to take all three points after Dwight McNeil and Calvert-Lewin put the away side in front.

The Toffees’ number nine was a handful all day with Torres unable to deal with his pace and physicality throughout the encounter.

It was a day to forget for the former Villarreal star and now Emery may look to reconsider his role when playing against more physical strikers.

The Spain international was his characteristic best with the ball at his feet with Everton giving him all the time in the world to pick a pass.

This saw him take advantage of his 130 touches to complete 106 passes during the 90 minutes, with an 88 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob].

With this, he made 19 passes into the final third which helped to get the Villans in behind the back line of the away side, especially down the left.

Although this aspect was positive, Calvert-Lewin had a field day up against Torres, seeing him score one and so nearly score another two.

Torres’ defensive showing was poor as he failed to register a single tackle and lost three duels.

Villa secured the win so his performance has somewhat gone under the radar, but against a tall and physical number nine, Emery might rethink his tactical approach.
