Missy Bo Kearns backed as Aston Villa Women ‘breakout star’ after summer transfer

Aston Villa Women star Missy Bo Kearns has been backed to be a breakout star after signing from Liverpool earlier in the summer.

The Villans have undergone a summer revamp after a disappointing campaign last time out under Carla Ward.

This has seen Robert de Pauw come in and bring in eight new players with Bo Kearns from Liverpool being one of them.

Writing for The Guardian on 10 September, Sophie Downey has picked out the 23-year-old to be Villa’s “breakout star” for the upcoming WSL season.

She said: ” Missy Bo Kearns is looking for a new lease of life in her young football career. Her decision to leave a club she joined at eight years old was a courageous one but shows her desire to succeed both domestically and internationally.

“Captaining England Under-23s has developed her leadership qualities, but with just nine league starts last campaign, she had little hope of taking the step up to the Lionesses permanently.

“The 23-year-old attacking midfielder will bring plenty of energy and a more solid link to Daly or the striker upfront. She is a player who loves to be on the ball, with an ability to operate in tight spaces.”

The Liverpool-born star has made the bold move to leave the Reds to make a move to the Midlands in a coup for Villa.

The England Under 23 International is extremely versatile which will make her a useful asset as the season moves on and injuries build up.

She has featured in a variety of different positions from centre midfield to on the wing and even as a striker which is always a positive.

This has seen the ex-Blackburn Rovers loanee develop a defensive output that is positive for a player who typically prefers to get forward.

Her ability to get a cross in will really suit Daly but it remains unclear whether or not de Pauw opts for that style of play.

With Chasity Grant coming in, Bo Kearns may be afforded chances in a central area depending on if the Netherlands international is preferred.

It looks to be an exciting time for Villa Women with the summer signing from Anfield looking set to be key.
