Aston Villa contract update after multiple offers fail to tie down ex-Rangers sensation Rory Wilson

Aston Villa remain in contract talks with Rory Wilson but the situation is becoming more concerning as he nears the point where he can speak to other clubs about leaving.

The former Rangers youth sensation is a player the club have been looking to tie down for months now but concrete progress has still yet to be made ahead of January where he will enter the final six-months of his current deal.

Fabrizio Romano reported back on 24 March that Villa had offered the Scot a five-year contract to see off widespread interest.

That looked like a positive move for a forward who had been in excellent goal-scoring form for both club and country.

Aston Villa want to secure Scotland Under-21 star’s future

But according to BBC Sport on 10 September, nearly six months later, in an update on their website at 2.26pm, Wilson’s deal is still in line to expire next summer as things stand.

That is despite Aston Villa reportedly now having made multiple five-year offers that have seemingly failed to convince the 18-year-old.

German double-winners Bayer Leverkusen are said to be one of the sides interested in the goalscorer, who netted 46 in 52 game for the Villa and Scotland age group sides last term.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for Unai Emery and it appears he isn’t itching to commit his future to the club if his standing doesn’t change.

Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran strong Unai Emery 1st-team options

Ollie Watkins has thrived under the Spaniard and despite strong links to a West Ham move in the summer Jhon Duran remains in the side and has already had a big impact this season in the Premier League.

If the Colombian has previously struggled to get minutes behind his England international teammate then it is hard to see Wilson getting an opportunity to step up any time soon.

But with less than four months now until his future might be taken out of the Villans’ hands they clearly need to do something different to keep hold of him, if they are intent on doing so.

In other Aston Villa news, Watkins has been backed to hit the ground running after his England exploits.
