Aston Villa, Liverpool claim made amid ‘overzealous’ controversy
Dan Bardell has compared Aston Villa to Liverpool and Newcastle United after confirming their Champions League ticket prices.
The Villans are charging fans extortionate fees to watch their side in Europe’s elite games with some supporters paying £1 per minute of action at Villa Park.
Villa’s £94 ticket price has been compared to Liverpool, whose most expensive ticket for an adult comes in at £61 [Liverpool FC], a £33 difference.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell saw this coming and has discussed prices offered by the Reds and Newcastle last year.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I knew they’d be probably a little bit overzealous with the pricing.
“You know Villa’s are way more expensive than Liverpool’s. You look back at Newcastle ticket prices for the Champions League last year.”
“They’re a team that were in, and that are still in, a similar position to Villa in that they’ve got PSR issues they’re trying to break into the elite.“

Typically, comparing Liverpool to Villa would be ludicrous but thanks to the work of Unai Emery, it is now a reality.
Given that, under Jurgen Klopp, supporters saw a Champions League brought back to Anfield, they could reasonably charge what they wanted.
But they appear to have an understanding of their supporters and the area, charging very reasonable fees for their tickets in Europe.
Villa managed to be reasonable in the Conference League last season but have flown well wide of the mark for the upcoming campaign.
Fans haven’t taken this lying down and won’t just pay these prices without a fight despite the club appearing to be standing their ground.
This has caused plenty of bad press but almost says it all about the club right now that they don’t seem to care.
