Aston Villa confirm deal to sign Arsenal starlet

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Owen Asemota from Arsenal, the club have announced.

The Villans revealed on 4 September via their official website that the goalkeeper has completed a move from the North London club.

Academy Manager Mark Harrison has been left excited by signing the England youth international saying: “We are delighted Owen has joined us.

He has very good athletic qualities and ball management skills, which really suit our style of play. We look forward to working with Owen and seeing how he develops over the next few years.”

The Villans have agreed to pay £1million in compensation to the Gunners for the highly rated shot-stopper after opting against a scholarship [Jeorge Bird].

Asemota has positive experience on the international stage with England Under 15s and has the potential to move up through the ranks as a Villa player.

With Unai Emery and Monchi adopting a transfer strategy to bring in young players on cheap fees with future resale value, this deal makes sense.

This follows on from earlier in the summer when Kane Taylor was signed from Manchester City, years after moving from Bodymoor Heath.

Bringing in the Arsenal youngster, having to pay just £1m for the move is a huge positive for the club and could see them have a goalkeeper for years to come.

There is always a chance that the deal doesn’t work out but even in that case, the Villans will be confident of recouping the fee spent further down the line.
