Morgan Rogers to earn senior England call-up as Aston Villa boss Unai Emery slams Lee Carsley
Bryan King believes Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers could soon earn a senior England call-up.
The ex-Villa scout claims that Rogers’ involvement with the England Under-21s this month will be a test for the 22-year-old.
Unai Emery recently blasted Lee Carsely for leaving Rogers out of the senior England team (via The Mirror, 31 August). The Villa boss is not happy that Rogers will be playing for the Under-21s, which the Spaniard described as “the second team”, instead.
But King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – feels that a senior call-up isn’t too far off for Rogers.
“Carsely has established options in the England squad,” King said.
“However, he will be looking at Rogers as a fringe player. I think him being part of the England Under-21s squad is a bit of a test for the player.
“If he turns up and performs for the Under-21s, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rogers in the senior England team during the next international break.
“This could be a way of looking at his character. England is England, whether it is the Under-21s or not. You represent your country, let’s see what his attitude is like.”
Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers to earn senior England call-up?
Rogers has been in excellent form for Villa this season. However, a senior England call-up might have come a bit too early for the forward this time around.
While Emery is perhaps right to suggest that Rogers won’t gain anything by playing for the Under-21s, this will still be a good opportunity for the youngster to make an impression on Carsely.

And if he continues in this form throughout the season, it shouldn’t be too long until he is promoted to the senior squad.
