Lamare Bogarde passes eye test in Aston Villa win v Leicester City – but his stats stink

Lamare Bogarde has an up-and-down performance as Aston Villa secured a 2-1 win against Leicester City on his Premier League debut.

The Villans picked up their second win of the season at the King Power thanks to goals from Amadou Onana and Jhon Duran.

This didn’t come easy as the home side scored late and piled the pressure on but Unai Emery’s side were able to hold out for all three points.

Pre-match there was a surprise as Bogarde was named in the starting XI at right back for his first league start for the club.

The Dutchman fit into the side well but did struggle at times which saw him hooked and swapped out for Kosta Nedeljkovic with 11 minutes to go.

At 20 years old, coming in for your first Premier League appearance is a daunting prospect but Bogarde took on the challenge with little fuss.

His passing was positive and as a versatile option who can play as a midfielder, he can be pleased with a 79 per cent pass accuracy [FotMob] but may have been hopeful to be better.

The ex-Bristol Rovers loanee was useful with the ball at his feet, driving forward with 100 per cent dribble success and three passes into the final third.

This is where the positivity ends with his stats as his performance got worse as tiredness began to creep in later in the clash.

Seeing a player going down with cramp in the Premier League is unusual but showed how much he began to struggle.

This saw second-half substitute Stephy Mavididi blast past him and put in a cross which Facundo Buonanotte scored to half the deficit.

The Dutchman stuck out a leg but missed the ball which eventually cost his side and made the last 15 minutes particularly difficult.

This was one of his missed tackles which saw him keep up a poor success rate of 33 per cent.

The academy product also struggled in the duel, losing the most on the pitch with 11 as Jordan Ayew caused him problems throughout.

It has to be said that the vast majority of Villa supporters were pleased with Bogarde’s performance and he looks like a player who is only going to get better with time.

Under Emery, there is no doubt that he will improve quickly and potentially become a starting regular as the season moves on.
