Leander Dendoncker set for Aston Villa Deadline Day exit after ‘panic buy’
Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa must move Leander Dendoncker on to Anderlecht to get him off the wage bill.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on 30 August that the Belgium international will undergo his medical ahead of a loan to Anderlecht.
The 29-year-old has missed out on the matchday squad for the Villans’ opening two fixtures so an exit appears to make sense.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that Villa need his wages off the bills considering the midfielder isn’t going to feature very regularly.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It’s a loan with no obligation or option so just a flat loan. He’s not a bad player but Villa have grown and he’s probably surplus.
“It’s positive for Villa to get someone who isn’t going to play off the wage bill because he was a panic signing by Steven Gerrard and is on a hefty wage.
“It is important to move him out, probably one of those you’d hope would have happened earlier. It’s happened so late that it won’t have an impact on being able to bring anyone else in.“
Leander Dendoncker to leave Aston Villa for Anderlecht
The former Wolves man has been a solid enough operator in his time at Villa Park without ever being a guaranteed starter under any manager.
Gerrard brought him in, in the same summer as Boubacar Kamara and the Belgian has remained in his shadow ever since.
When called upon, Dendoncker has always put in a shift but his lack of pace does cause him problems in the Premier League, especially against the better sides.
With Villa preparing for a campaign in the Champions League, the defensive midfielder just isn’t going to feature and getting rid makes sense for Unai Emery.
