Aston Villa to make late Chelsea call amid Lutsharel Geertruida Deadline Day development

Dan Bardell believes Aston Villa should ask Chelsea for Trevoh Chalobah on loan after missing out on Lutsharel Geertruida to RB Leipzig.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 30 August that the Netherlands international was set to join the Bundesliga side after flying to Germany.

The Villans had been linked to the versatile defender in a potential £30million move which never went through [Express and Star].

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has urged Unai Emery to sign Chalobah on loan in response to the failed deal with Feyenoord.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “At the moment Villa need to move people on before they can bring them in which is disappointing.

This hadn’t become apparent until the last 24 hours but you wouldn’t expect Villa to show their hand in that way. It is a blow because I think Geertruida would have been a great fit at Villa.

My hope now is that someone like Dendoncker goes and wages are freed up to bring in someone else of that ilk.

Villa could go to Chelsea last second and ask for Trevoh Chalobah for the season because defence is the only area I’d say Villa are desperately short.

Aston Villa to make Trevoh Chalobah call after Geertruida miss

The Dutchman appeared to be the key target for Emery’s side at the end of the transfer window but have now missed out to their upcoming Champions League opponents.

There was a desire to sign Geertruida before the Arsenal clash but when Matty Cash went off injured, the need for him increased.

Now that they have missed out on him, a new defender option is needed, otherwise, Kosta Nedeljkovic is going to be pushed into the spotlight.

Chalobah could prove to be a useful signing on loan for the campaign as a defender who is useful with the ball at his feet and has positive experience in the Premier League.
