Aston Villa agree Enzo Barrenechea loan deal, contract details shared

Enzo Barrenechea’s loan move to Valencia from Aston Villa is “done and confirmed”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via his personal X account [29 August] that the 23-year-old Argentine’s temporary contract will not include a buy-option to join the La Liga side on a permanent deal.

It is understood that the midfielder, who only arrived at Villa Park this summer as part of Douglas Luiz’s move to Juventus, is seen as a key part of Villa’s plans.

Romano’s post was, of course, accompanied by the famous “here we go” caption ahead of the 11pm deadline on 30 August.

Enzo Barrenechea leaves Aston Villa on loan for Valencia

Given the excitement surrounding the 23-year-old when he arrived at Villa Park, some fans are disappointed to see him already being sent out on loan.

However, knowing that Barrenechea is part of Unai Emery’s future plans at the club means the Argentine can go away to gain some valuable experience before coming back to the Midlands.

While he made five senior appearances for Juventus, most of his senior experience came during a season-long loan with Frosinone, where he made 39 appearances and scored once.

Barrenechea certainly has the potential to be a starting midfielder under the guidance of Emery, though the likes of Amadou Onana, John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Ross Barkley make it much harder to fit him in.

This is even before Boubacar Kamara returns from injury, so it is understandable to see the Villans strike a loan deal for the Argentine to gain some valuable game time instead of being stuck on the bench.

Barrenechea was only handed 10 minutes of football against Borussia Dortmund during the club’s pre-season tour, which seems to have been a telling sign of his season to come at Villa Park.
