Aston Villa could pay over the odds to seal last-ditch Lutsharel Geertruida transfer

Ty Bracey thinks Aston Villa might overspend on Lutsharel Geertruida but would still be a positive signing.

Matt Maher from the Express and Star reported on 27 August that the Villans are pushing to complete a £30million deal for the Netherlands international.

With the recent injury to Matty Cash, the need for a new right back at Villa Park has been reinforced with the 24-year-old appearing to be a wanted man.

Villa podcaster Bracey is excited by the potential signing but has suggested it may be an overspend by Unai Emery.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He can cover three positions, right back, right centre back and as a defensive midfielder.

I think it is a great signing personally.

What amount is too much to spend on a player in the final year of his contract? If he had three or four years left then that would be a fair fee. If that is what we need to get a deal done then it is what it is.

I think it is a lot to spend.

It just goes to show how highly Feyenoord rate him. He’s one of their standout performers and they’ll be desperate not to lose him.

It was unfortunate to see Cash go off so early against Arsenal, especially after being forced off on the opening day against West Ham.

It is unclear how long the Poland international could be ruled out for but additional cover in that position would be useful regardless.

Geertruida could prove to be the perfect addition in an Emery system given his demand last season for a more defensively sound right back.

The Dutchman has the ability to play as there but would also be comfortable in positions across the backline and potentially in midfield.

If the Villans can get this deal over the line before the transfer deadline creeps up on them then Villa fans are likely to be even more excited for the upcoming season.
