Samuel Iling-Junior to secure Aston Villa loan exit today as medical underway
Aston Villa winger Samuel Iling-Junior is set to sign his Bologna contract today and confirm his Villa Park loan exit, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Monday (26 August) that the attacker’s medical is underway with the Italian side as he closes in on a loan move only months after he joined Unai Emery’s side from Juventus.
Iling-Junior’s switch to Bologna will be a straight loan deal, with no option or obligation to make the deal permanent included in the transfer after the Englishman was left out of Villa’s squad against Arsenal.
Will Samuel Iling-Junior exit Aston Villa amid Bologna transfer rumours?
It may have been a short and sweet spell at Villa Park, but it seems as though Iling-Junior’s time as an Aston Villa player will be put on hold only a matter of months after he made the move to the Premier League.
A few eyebrows were raised when the Englishman swapped clubs with Douglas Luiz this summer, alongside fellow Juventus teammate Enzo Barrenchea and it seems as those fans’ concerns have been recognised within the club.
Emery has so many wide options at his disposal already at Villa Park and given the form of the likes of Leon Bailey and Morgan Rogers, it is hard to see where Iling-Junior fits in both the short and long-term plans.
Perhaps a strong loan spell away from Villa Park will aid his development more than sitting on the bench in the Premier League, but this is a player who already has plenty of experience at the top level with Juventus.
Hopefully, the attacker will find his feet back in Italy and rediscover the form that made him so coveted in the past.
Villa’s decision to not include a permanent option in the loan move suggests they haven’t completely given up on him.
