Alex Moreno Aston Villa future assessed as Nottingham Forest loan confirmed

Dan Bardell believes Alex Moreno could still have a future at Aston Villa after confirming a season-long loan to Nottingham Forest.

The Villans confirmed the Spaniard’s loan move to the City Ground on 21 August, 19 months on since signing from Real Betis.

The writing has been on the wall for the 31-year-old after fellow left back Lucas Digne dismissed a potential move to Galatasaray earlier in the window.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell thinks it makes sense to loan Moreno who could still return and feature in B6.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He may still have some form of future with Villa in a year’s time.

At the moment Villa are in a position where they’ve got a multitude of left-backs so they have to shift one.

I think it is tough because I think if his injury hadn’t happened when it did, I do think this would have turned out differently.

He was absolutely brilliant in his first half season and was a big reason why Villa qualified for Europe.

It is a shame that this has happened, hopefully, he can go to Forest and do well.

Alex Moreno leaves Aston Villa for Nottingham Forest

It will be disappointing to some Villa supporters that the Spaniard has departed the club after he became a fan favourite in a short period.

The flying left-back was always fun to watch but also backed that up with positive performances going forward and defensively.

He set the standards on his debut against Leeds United when he made a superb goalline clearance to endear himself to the Villa Park faithful.

Unfortunately, after his injury, Moreno has failed to hit the heights he once did and has now found himself third in the pecking order.

With Ian Maatsen coming in from Chelsea and Digne maintaining a top level of form across the course of Emery’s rein as manager, the former Mallorca man was best placed moving on.
